Portfolio Day
I've been having major issues with Blogger lately, so apologies for the lack of posts/photos. For a fun explosion of type creativity, check out my latest flickr set photos from my "Intro to Typography" class (spring 2008). Metal macaroni type--enough said.

Hand Lettering
Last week Jeff Canham and Caitlyn Galloway gave an amazing hand lettering workshop for my "Intro to Type" students. Balancing against the mall stick and twirling the brush proved tricky for me, but my students did a wonderful job.

Here we are patiently awaiting Andrew's first stroke of the "T".

You can see more of Jeff and Caitlyn's handiwork at New Bohemia Signs in San Francisco.

Forget Clip Art
Working on invitations for the wedding in Capay. Walked around the neighborhood looking for laurel yesterday, and then arranged on the kitchen floor. Suddenly I have Montel Jordan's "This is how we do it" stuck in my head. Physically prototyping is probably my favorite way to design anything and everything.

Anne Selden

Fashion designer Anne Selden's work is now available online, and she's having a huge clearance sale on her winter collection. I met Anne at Cranbrook and fell in love with her sense of color and the playful structure of her work. She's a meticulous designer with a deep love of line and shape, and her creations always have a delightful element of surprise. These are just a sampling from her shop, and they're a complete steal!

I am deciding right now on colors for my own custom jumper with pockets. Yellow is feeling quite right for this shape, wouldn't you say?
